During her internship. she is accruing the clinical hours required to sit for her national board certification exam through the Certification Board for Music Therapists

Hawley complete practicum placements through Hands in Harmoney (HIH) located on the URI campus in Kingston, RI. Through HIH, she gained clinical experience working with individuals aged 2-60+ with a variety of developmental and neurological disabilities.

Outside of her practicum, she served as the secretary in URI’s Music Therapy Club during her senior year. She also had the opportunity to collaborate with her peers and present their research at URI’s annual neuroscience symposium. The title of her group’s research was “Neurocognitive Differences in Musicians and Non-musicians: A Review of Literature and Implications.”

Hawley’s primary instrument is oboe and she is building her clinical proficiency with guitar, voice, piano, and percussion. She also plays flute. During her internship, Hawley will work alongside Infinity’s clinical team to provide individual and group music therapy sessions in clinic, in private homes, adult day programs, and more.

Hawley is grateful to be a new member of the Infinity team and excited to learn and grow as a music therapist throughout her internship!

What brought Hawley to music therapy?

“I started taking flute lessons in the third grade and continued through high school, eventually learning the oboe in my freshman year, which later became my primary instrument throughout college. I was first introduced to music therapy through my flute teacher, who was studying/practicing music therapy throughout the years I was taking lessons. In my junior year of high school, I started to look into what music therapy was, and see what schools offered music therapy as a major. After my first year studying music therapy in college, I knew that this was something I was very passionate about and excited to keep learning about!”
