Emily Kropo is a Staff Music Therapist at Infinity. She is nationally board certified through the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Emily graduated from Anna Maria College (AMC) located in Paxton, MA, with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy degree, and minors in both Psychology and Jazz Studies. Emily primarily serves New Haven County.

During her educational journey, Emily was very fortunate to complete her practicum and internship at Perkins School for the Blind, located in Massachusetts. She led and co-led individual and group music therapy sessions with children with visual impairments and developmental disabilities. Overall, her time at Perkins gave her the drive to work through clinical challenges head-on, to trust the clinical process, and to serve her clients through a client-centered care lens.

Outside of her clinical work, Emily served on the NER-AMTAS (New England Region of the American Music Therapy Association Students) board for three years, with one year as President. Through this non-profit organization, she led a team of music therapy college students to host annual conferences, small events, and fundraisers. At AMC, Emily used her senior thesis to research how the closure of the music programs impacted the students at this school. Overall, this gave her momentum to continue advocating for the education of music therapy, and for the field as a whole.

With a classical and jazz background, Emily has been a pianist for almost 20 years. She is also proficient on guitar, percussion, and vocals. As a singer/ songwriter, Emily has professionally recorded her original music. She has released a few singles and an EP, and looks forward to recording more

What brought Emily to Music Therapy?

“I first learned about music therapy during my freshman year of high school. I knew that music was a special part of my life, and I wanted to help make it a special part of the lives of others. After choosing my major, I realized there was so much more to learn about this field, and I wanted to be an effective clinician for my future clients. When I stepped into my clinical work, I learned to support my clients’ goals by strongly facilitating music improvisation and songwriting interventions. Being able to provide a container for my clients for them to freely express themselves musically gave me so much joy, and I am excited to continue to provide similar experiences.”
