Music Therapy Practicum Student
To reach Kayla, please contact Mark Wickham, MA, MT-BC, Lead Student Supervisor mark@infinitymusictherpy.com
Kayla Pacheco is a music therapy practicum student; they are currently studying for a Bachelor’s degree in music therapy at Montclair State University, located in New Jersey.
Kayla began their musical journey at a young age with piano, until they chose the clarinet as their primary instrument for over a decade. These days, their main focus is now on guitar. Additionally, they have been in ensembles playing the vibraphone, xylophone, electric guitar, and bass. Kayla is involved in their local church, where they perform clarinet solos, sing in the chancel choir, and play acoustic guitar in the worship band.
Kayla works part-time at a music school teaching a variety of instruments. At their previous practicum site, Kayla observed and led sessions for hospice patients, where the majority of the clients were elderly adults with dementia. Kayla is also a practicum student at a private, non profit private school for children with learning disabilities.
During their time at Infinity, Kayla will work alongside our clinical team to explore telehealth music therapy for individuals with developmental and neurological disorders.
What does Kayla hope to learn during their practicum?
“During my time with Infinity, I hope to learn about the ways that music therapy in telehealth can be effective, especially now in an age where technology is used as an asset in health services.”
