Are you a music therapy student in the final stages of your academic journey, eager to complete your clinical hours and prepare for the national board examination? Infinity Music Therapy Services is thrilled to offer a university-affiliated internship program designed to help you grow as a clinician while gaining valuable real-world experience. We proudly partner with Berklee College of Music, Marywood University, Saint Mary of the Woods College, Montclair State University, Southern Connecticut State University, University of Rhode Island, and Temple University. We are also actively expanding our network to include more universities, providing even greater opportunities for students across the country.

- Diverse Clientele & Varied Caseloads: You’ll work with a wide range of populations, from children and adults with developmental disabilities to individuals with mental health, neurological, and wellness needs. Whether in individual or group sessions, you’ll be exposed to diverse diagnoses and treatment plans, providing a dynamic, well-rounded experience.
- Comprehensive Supervision & Mentorship: You will receive supervision in and out of the clinical setting to target generalization of skills across environments. You’ll have access to individual and group supervision each week, helping you refine your clinical skills, develop confidence, and receive constructive feedback that accelerates your growth. We focus on the “why” of music therapy to help create a foundation of success for wherever your professional journey takes you.
- Build Professional Skills for Success: This internship is designed not only to improve your clinical skills but to prepare you for a successful career in music therapy. You’ll learn everything from conducting assessments and writing treatment plans to public speaking, marketing music therapy, and managing client schedules. You’ll also receive resume-building and interview coaching from our Director of Services, a national business coach for music therapists. Engage in public speaking, learn how to market music therapy, and participate in self-care workshops to ensure you are prepared for long-term success in this rewarding career!
Schedule
The internship runs from early/mid-September to late March/early April and requires a commitment of approximately 40 hours per week. The day-to day schedule may vary depending on client needs, but it typically includes a mix of session hours, travel time, office hours, and administrative responsibilities. Some weekend work may be required for professional development activities like conferences, marketing events, or public speaking engagements (your hours will be flexed to allow for these important learning opportunities while ensuring that you have personal time to pursue your desired activities outside of work. Sessions are typically conducted between 8:30am-7:00pm. Each day may look different with allocated hours for planning, documentation, client contact, supervision, travel, and more. This internship does require some flexibility as sessions may be canceled and rescheduled based upon the needs of our clients.
Locations
You will report to our Southington clinic for team meetings, supervision, and session throughout the week. You will travel to a variety of settings throughout Connecticut which can include day cares, day programs, private homes, schools, group homes and more. Your exact sites will be decided closer to the start of your internship.
Materials and Resources
You’ll have access to an extensive collection of music therapy resources, including a large selection of instruments (ex. drums, guitars, ukuleles, boomwhackers, shakers, tambourines, etc.), art supplies, office materials (including laminating and binding machines), and text resources. Interns are also provided a computer and cell phone to use for the duration of their placement. (If you aren’t working, turn off the tech!) You are require to have access to reliable transportation to travel between sites and you will need to provide your own professional liability insurance.

- Resume (including clinical experience or relevant volunteer work)
- Cover letter (explaining why you want to intern with Infinity)
- Written sample session plan for a 45-minute session for a group of adults with developmental disabilities with a focus on community building and social interaction; include at least one goal with two objectives
- Written 30-minute sample session plan for an Autistic eight-year-old child with a focus on expressive communication skills; include at least one goal with two objectives.
- Two professional letters of recommendation
- 2 Videos of at least 2min long each demonstrating your guitar and piano/vocal skills
