Nymisha Upadhyayula is a Staff Music Therapist at Infinity. She is nationally board certified through the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Nymisha earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance and Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. She also holds a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification from the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat and a diploma in Kuchipudi dance from the University of Silicon Andhra. Nymisha primarily serves clients in the New London area.

In addition to being a staff music therapist, Nymisha is also Infinity’s Mobile Clinic Coordinator. Nymisha is actively working to create more accessibility for music therapy services through a focused design of a mobile clinic to reach people throughout Connecticut.

Throughout her education and clinical training, Nymisha gained experience working with individuals across the lifespan in a variety of settings. Her practicum placements included older adults with dementia, early childhood developmental programs, and bereavement support groups. She also completed a field study at Infinity Music Therapy Services, working with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health diagnoses, neurological conditions, and wellness-focused programming.

Nymisha completed her internship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City, where she facilitated individual and group music therapy sessions across pediatrics, oncology, general

medicine, stroke rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, young adult behavioral health, and the outpatient Music and Psychotherapy Clinic. She also participated in music therapy research, staff education, and community outreach initiatives.

In addition to her clinical work, Nymisha has extensive experience teaching private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, dance, and songwriting to children and adults. She has also taught yoga and dance in community and volunteer settings with pediatric, adult, and older adult populations. Through her community involvement, she has led youth programming, organized cultural events and volunteer initiatives, and developed resources to support the program’s continued growth. These experiences have strengthened her belief in meeting each individual where they are and using music, movement, and community connection to support meaningful growth.

With a background in both Western and Indian classical traditions, Nymisha is proficient in guitar, piano, percussion, voice, and veena. As a classically trained Kuchipudi dancer and certified yoga instructor, she enjoys bringing creativity, flexibility, and cultural awareness into her work. Nymisha believes music has the power to foster connection, expression, and growth, and she is passionate about helping clients reach their goals through individualized, client-centered care.

What brought Nymisha to music therapy?

“Music has always been a central part of my life, but I knew I wanted to use it for something greater than performance. When I discovered music therapy, I realized it combined everything I loved—music, psychology, creativity, and helping others. Throughout my clinical experiences, I found the greatest joy in creating meaningful musical experiences that allow clients to express themselves, build relationships, and discover strengths they may not have realized they had. I believe every person has a unique story, and I feel incredibly grateful to use music as a way to help clients share that story and work toward their goals.”
